Mission Statement of the Fry School Library Media Program

The mission of the Fry School Library Media Program is to ensure that students are effective users of books and information.  The library media center strives to provide the school community with a wide range of materials on appropriate levels of difficulty that will encourage growth in knowledge and establish a life-long love of reading.

Management

Library materials are cataloged and checked out using the automation program, Follett Destiny.  A student I.D. is scanned along with the books for checkout.  Upon return to the library, books are scanned in and available for circulation.

A web-based part of the program provides on-line access to the school collection in the library media center and classrooms, as well as from home computers.  The Follett Destiny resource icon is located on the District Website and provides access to books available for checkout from Fry Library Media Center.

Books

Kindergarten and 1st grade students have a weekly scheduled time. These students may checkout one book from the beige cart for a period of one week.  School I.D. is required for book checkout.

Students from grades 2-6 also have a weekly schedule for book exchange in the library media center with teacher and classroom.  These students may checkout two books for one week and renew up to two more times if needed.  Special permission for one additional book may be granted when necessary for an assignment.  School I.D. is required for book checkout.

The media clerk strives to instill a sense of responsibility while a book is in the possession of the students.  This means students are responsible for caring for it, using a bookmark, renewing, and returning it on time so others may borrow it.

Overdue Books

The Fry library media center does charge for overdue books.  The student has a seven day grace period to return the book(s) after the due date. Once the grace period is over, the student will be charged five cents per book, per day until the book(s) are returned.  Overdue notices are sent out on a routine basis.  Student will received a bill for any “lost” book if item is not returned.

Lost and Damaged Books

If a book is lost or damaged, it must be paid for before additional books can be checked out.  Payment for a lost book will be reimbursed if the book is found and returned in good condition within the same school year.

If a book page accidently tears, it should not be repaired at home.  The media clerk should be notified and will repair the book.
