Hello McCord Families and Friends,
As the school year continues, we have much to celebrate at McCord School. Our Mustangs continue to demonstrate that Mustangs are Limitless! Many students demonstrated their flair for writing by entering the district’s Young Author’s Contest. Their teachers and I were delighted that they entered and awed by their writings! One Limitless Mustang, 6 grader, Laura Rabiczko, was recognized for her exceptional writing skills! Laura’s entry was selected as the best of all 6 graders in Burbank School District 111! Our 5th graders are still bubbling with glee over their recent accomplishment. All 5th graders, successfully completed the DARE Program! On February 27th, Mayor Foy and other dignitaries from the city of Burbank attended our DARE Ceremony. After receiving their certificates and taking pictures, the 5th graders enjoyed fun in the sun while partaking in a Silly String Party! The 4th and 3rd graders are sharpening their scientific minds by drawing conclusions through STEM based learning; they’ve been creating models and testing their durability. Our younger Mustangs are also galloping along the road to success. The 2nd graders are McCord’s mathematicians and the 1st graders are fine tuning their geography skills! Our kindergartners are leaping hurdles; they’re writing fabulous stories, reading popcorn words, and tying their shoes!
We hope to continue galloping along the road to success by having a winner in the district’s Blooming Expressionists Art Exhibition; entries are due on March 19, 2019. Information detailing specifics has been sent home with children and can be found on the district’s web-page.
Our students in grades 3 through 6 will demonstrate their academic wares by completing the Illinois Assessment for Readiness Test during the weeks of March 11th and March 18th. All students will complete tests in the subjects of reading and mathematics; students in grade 5 will also complete a science test. Please ensure that your child can do his/her personal best while completing the test. Ensure that he/she receives a good night’s rest, eats a healthy breakfast at home or at school, and arrives to school on time.
I am extending a warm invitation to all McCord families and friends to attend the school board meeting on April 24, 2019. In April, McCord School will be highlighted. The board room will be adorned with creations by our students and the presentation will reflect the Masterpieces that make McCord School a wonderful place to learn, work, and grow. The board meeting will be held at the district’s central office located at 7600 S. Central. The meeting starts at 7:00 p.m. I hope to see some familiar faces!
Yours in education,
Dr. Sharon A. Walker-Hood
