Happy New Year McCord Families and Friends,
I hope that the onset of a new year offers many opportunities for celebration. Happy thoughts and well wishes are extended to you! As we move into the new year, we have many events scheduled on our January calendar. We are thrilled to provide opportunities that will engage our students and build supportive bonds with our families and freinds..
Students in grades kindergarten through eight throughout the district are currently writing original essays for the district’s annual Young Authors Contest. All entries must be completed and submit by Friday, January 18, 2019. I am optimistic that McCord will have a winner; several students have shared great topics and are very enthusiastic about their writings.
We have hosted our building level Spelling Bee and have a very competent speller, Bailey Cavin, who will represent McCord School at the District Spelling Bee. The District Spelling Bee will be held at Liberty Jr. High on January 16, 2019 at 6:00 p.m.; support Bailey by attending the District Bee!
Our very first family field trip is scheduled. Proudly wear you Mustang gear and attend a UIC Basketball game with us on Saturday, January 26, 2019. For a minimal cost of $3 per person you will receive transportation to and from the game, plus entrance into the game. It is going to be an awesome event; all the lights and thrills of a professional game without the cost!
In addition to the events that will showcase our students, McCord will host a Parent Academy throughout the week of January 27th. Parents will be invited to classrooms to participate in instructional lessons. A flyer detailing particulars of this event will be sent home. We are always happy to host family events.
I am also expanding my wings. I have started a blog. The blog showcases the wonderful things that are happening at McCord School. There are tidbits about the kids, teachers, staff, and families that make McCord School a great school. Follow our adventure by reading the blog at Kidsprincipal.com. Don’t forget to follow us on Twitter: Frances B. MCCord @swalkerhood.
Yours in education,
