The Ben Carson Reading Project, founded by retired, world-renowned pediatric neurosurgeon Dr. Ben Carson and his wife, Candy, is an initiative of the Carson Scholars Fund. The purpose of the Ben Carson Reading Project is to create a literacy-enriched environment for children to enhance their reading skills. The reading project is dedicated to promoting reading as a key to unlocking a child’s full potential.
Kenneth W. Lukhard, president of Advocate Christ Medical Center, commented, “Dr. Carson is the youngest surgeon to ever lead the division of pediatric neurosurgery at the prestigious Johns Hopkins Children’s Center. Dr. Carson became internationally recognized as one of the finest and most innovative pediatric surgeons in the world. In addition to his passion to treat and bring healing to his patients who flew to Johns Hopkins from around the world to be seen by him, Dr. Carson has a passion to motivate America’s youth to reach their academic, moral and leadership potential. Advocate Christ Medical Center is pleased to be partnered with the Carson Scholars Fund to help students in their personal pursuit of excellence.”
“Burbank School District 111 is grateful to Advocate Christ Medical Center and to the Carson Scholars Fund for providing reading rooms for our students and for their support of literacy in our schools,” said Dr. Franzy Fleck, superintendent of Burbank School District 111. “These rooms offer a 21st century learning environment that will encourage our children to fall in love with reading and prepare them for their promising futures. We hope these rooms will become a place where students can ‘Think Big!’ and discover that their dreams can come true.”
These are the tenth and eleventh Ben Carson Reading Rooms to be sponsored by Advocate Christ Medical Center.
Currently 166 Ben Carson Reading Rooms have been established serving students in 22 states and Washington, D.C. To learn more about the Carson Scholars Fund visit www.carsonscholars.org.
