update

May 12, 2020

Dear Burbank 111 Families,

I would like to thank all of our families and students for their consistent effort in finishing the 2019-20 school year strong!   We know that this is not the way we had imagined we would be ending the year, but you have all done an amazing job.

  • The last day of student attendance and remote learning for K-7th grade students will be May 20.  Students should continue to log-in to first period or first thing in the morning for attendance through WEDNESDAY, MAY 20.
  • Thursday, May 21 and Friday, May 22 will be scheduled as Remote Learning Planning Days, allowing teachers to plan for next year. STUDENTS DO NOT NEED TO LOG IN ON THURSDAY, MAY 21 OR FRIDAY MAY 22, 2020.
  • Below is the revised schedule for the last week of school:

May 18

Remote Learning, Last Day of School for 8th Graders

May 19

Remote Learning - Grades K-7

May 20

Remote Learning - Last Day of School for Students Grade K-7

May 21

NO SCHOOL - Remote Planning Day

May 22

NO SCHOOL - Remote Planning Day

  • Information regarding pick-up of student materials from their desks or lockers will be communicated later, when a firm date can be set for all students to retrieve their items while maintaining top health and safety standards. This will include a plan for dropping off student devices that have been borrowed as well.
  • Summer school is scheduled to start on July 6, 2020. Summer School will be held remotely, with teachers engaging smaller groups of students during 4 weeks of instruction.  Students invited to Summer School will be contacted next week.
  • Report cards for the fourth quarter will be available in PowerSchool and will be sent electronically through email.  If you have not shared a current email with your school, please email your principal as soon as possible so that information can be updated.
  • It is expected that all students (unless prior arrangements with parents have been made) will pass to the next grade level for the 2020-2021 school year.
  • Over the summer, the district will be working hard to prepare for both in-person and remote learning so that we are ready for whatever the Fall will bring.  As we have all learned together this Spring, we need to remain flexible, adjust very quickly to new processes and procedures, and most importantly, be patient with ourselves and others as we work through this together.
  • Registration for next year.
    • Families of current students who have appropriate residency documents on file with the district will be receiving a letter containing an InfoSnap code that they can use to register their students for next year by clicking on the “Returning Student Registration 2020-2021” link on the district’s website.
    • Families without current residency information on file will receive a letter detailing how they can email the district updated information.  Once this residency information is received, an InfoSnap code will be mailed to them.
    • NEW kindergarten students for next year:  Families enrolling a new kindergarten student for the 2020-2021 school year can use the “Kindergarten Registration 2020-2021” link on the district’s website to electronically register their students.  Appointments will be scheduled at a later date for these families to come in and provide the needed residency/student documentation.
  • Meals will continue to be provided through Friday, May 22, 2020 on the schedule already established.   A new meal distribution plan will take place after this date and details about that schedule will be shared soon.

Thank you

Burbank School District 111

INFORMATION FOR GRADUATING 8th GRADERS:

I would like to thank all of our families and students for their consistent effort in finishing their 8th grade year strong! We know that this is not the way we had imagined we would be completing our requirements, but you are doing an amazing job persevering to our ultimate goal - GRADUATION.

As you know, your student completed a graduation survey. A graduation committee will present those survey results at the next school board meeting. Because of timing, we will not be holding graduation on the original date, May 20. Dates for these celebrations will be communicated after the May 27 School Board Meeting. The following information is what we can share today:

  • The last day of student attendance and remote learning for 8th graders will be May 18. Students MUST log-in to first period for attendance on this day to receive any graduation updated information available and will be working fun activities centered around their reflection of this year and their career aspirations moving forward.
  • On May 20 the district will share 2 graduation class celebration videos based on the requests outlined in the survey for our students to see their friends and teachers as they celebrate. The first video will be a culmination video depicting candid pictures of our graduating class taken at events and in the classrooms throughout the year. The second video is our “staff send-off” featuring many of the Burbank 111 staff sharing their congratulations with our graduates.
  • Information regarding distribution of graduation items (caps & gowns, yard signs, t-shirts, yearbooks, graduation picture re-takes, diplomas) will be communicated the week of May 18. We want to make sure all of our items are at Liberty before we set a date for distribution.
  • Information regarding pick-up of student materials from their lockers will be communicated at later time when a firm date can be set for all students to retrieve their items while maintaining top health and safety standards. I look forward to seeing you all again soon! Please know that Burbank 111 is doing their best to honor your graduate during these unusual times.

Dr. Kelly Whyte Principal, Liberty Junior High
