District 111 Reopening Plan

update

Dear Burbank 111 Families,

The unprecedented challenges presented by COVID-19 have created significant hurdles for our families, our staff and our school community. Throughout this time, Burbank 111 has remained committed to the safety and well-being of our students, families and staff. On Wednesday, July 22, 2020, the district administration presented the 2020-2021 reopening school year plan to the Board of Education.

Our plans are inclusive of Governor Pritzker’s executive orders, CDCIDPH, and ISBE Starting The 2020-2021 School Year, released on June 23, 2020 and updated on June 30, 2020 and the ISBE FAQ July 9, 2020  These plans will continue to be updated should guidance evolve.

Our School Reopening Plan prioritizes what is best for our students and staff, and provides options for families for their children as school resumes. We have invested heavily in preventative measures for all stakeholders. Upon review of our plan, the administration hopes all stakeholders will see the intentionality used to develop a safe and effective learning environment for all of our children, families, and staff.  We had two teams of various stakeholders who were part of our Remote Learning and Emergency Operations Committees. These teams worked in an advisory capacity, providing feedback and sharing ideas.  I would like to thank the more than 1,300 parents/guardians who provided feedback through surveys, which was instrumental and guided our development of the plan. The final plan was approved by the Board of Education last night.

District 111 is offering families two options.

Option 1: Hybrid Model

  • The Hybrid model consists of an A/B Schedule with students in-person at school for at least two days a week for 4 hours with the remainder of the week done remotely from home
  • Teachers will deliver synchronous instruction for 4 hours each morning whether a student is in-person or remote
  • All students will be expected to participate in remote learning each afternoon
  • Face coverings (masks) will be required for students and staff when in the schools
  • The district will make every effort to have siblings attend school on the same schedule

Options 2: 100% Remote Learning

  • A full remote learning option is available for families who would prefer their children not participate in any form of in-person instruction

All students will be given a district provided electronic device, which they will be expected to bring back and forth to school.  Each school will have their own device pick up scheduled the week of August 17-21.  All students will be expected to go online Tuesday, August 25 at 9:00 am to meet their teacher remotely.  Safety precautions and procedures will be shared at this time.  Please also note that the PASS program will be closed for the 2020-21 school year.

Please click the links below to see the updated school calendar, detailed plans, and the TEAMS presentation, which was shared with the Board at the meeting on July 22, 2020.

After reviewing the details of the plan and the two options, parents/guardians will need to select their learning environment preference for the 2020-21 school year.  Click the links below for the learning environment preference form, which is available in English, Spanish, Arabic, and Polish.  Be sure to complete one form for each one of your children.

We have missed our staff and students and look forward to seeing them again soon. Thank you for your patience and support during these challenging times. By now we have all learned that things can change very quickly when dealing with COVID-19, so please continue to check your email and the district website for the most up to date information.

Stay safe.

Respectfully,

Dr. Franzy Fleck

Superintendent

Burbank School District 111
