Message from the Superintendent 1/8/21

Dear Burbank SD 111 Families,

Happy new year and welcome back!  We had a productive winter break in District 111.  All buildings were deep cleaned.  Safety protocols were put in place in preparation for having students back in the buildings soon.  Our number one priority has been and will continue to be the health, wellness, and safety of all students and staff members.  Our custodians have done a wonderful job of cleaning, sanitizing, and placing social distancing markers and reminders throughout each building.

District 111 is currently planning a multi-tiered, phased approach to return to in-person instruction.  On January 25, we will start phasing in small groups of students back to school.  This in-person instruction will be five days a week in the mornings with remote learning in the afternoon.  Phase I Groups are as follows:

Elementary Schools:  Early Childhood, At-risk Pre-School, Kindergarten, Instructional Special Education (self-contained)

Liberty Junior High:  Instructional Special Education (self-contained), EL self-contained

Students who selected full remote learning will remain full remote.  Principals will be contacting families who have students that will return to school on January 25.

As students return to the buildings, we will be using a platform called CrisisGo for COVID-19 pre-certification.  The staff have been using the program since the beginning of the school year.  Parents will submit the form each day their child will go to school in-person to verify the child does not have any COVID-19 symptoms or recent contact with individuals who have (or may have) contracted COVID-19.  Information on the program will be sent to parents next week.

Daily schedules for students will remain the same as students are phased back into in-person learning.  The schedules can be found below.

We continue to be in constant communication with Stickney Township Public Health District regarding COVID-19 guidance, safety protocols, and contact tracing.  They will also be involved in administering vaccinations to staff in accordance with the guidelines established by the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH).

Additionally, every effort has been made to develop and improve systems to support learning for all students.  The goal of Burbank School District 111 is to have all students enrolled in the hybrid program back in school for in-person instruction as soon as possible.

As we continue moving forward, there are many educational activities still taking place despite COVID-19 restrictions.  Schools have scheduled virtual Erin’s Law presentations for students starting next week.  MAP testing for students continues virtually next week as well.  Finally, Principals are in the process of organizing and scheduling virtual Spelling Bees and plans are being made to hold a socially-distanced, in-person district-wide Spelling Bee for the school champions in February.

As always, we will continue to keep our families informed via the district website, social media, and School Messenger.

Respectfully,

Dr. Franzy Fleck

Superintendent
