School Resource Officer

School Resource Officers are uniformed law enforcement officers from the Burbank Police Department. Burbank School District 111 and the Burbank Police Department agree on working in a cooperative, proactive, problem-solving partnership between the Police Department and the School District. 
 
The mission of the School Resource Officer (SRO) is to provide and maintain a safe, healthy and productive learning environment while acting as a positive role model for students, staff and law enforcement officials. The presence of a School Resource Officer makes students, teachers, and staff feel safer which ultimately has a positive impact on the occurrence of incidents and acts of violence. The program fosters a foundation for a safer, more secure schools, free of fear and more conducive to learning.

Role and Responsibilities

The School Resource Officer fills three primary roles and objectives:

  • Advise on crises and incident management
  • Drug abuse and awareness
  • Crime Prevention
  • Bullying
  • Be a resource for students, staff, parents and the community
 
Law Enforcement Officer
 
  • Respond to on-campus calls and emergencies
  • Enforce state laws and city ordinances
  • Deter on campus crime
  • Utilize restorative approach
  • Issue citations and make arrests when necessary
  • A link between the police and the school community
