Student Arrival and Dismissal Procedures

At District 111, student safety during arrival and dismissal is our top priority. We ask that all parents and guardians strictly follow the school’s arrival and dismissal traffic and safety procedures. These guidelines are in place to ensure the well-being of every student, and we appreciate your cooperation in making safety our absolute first priority.

General Pick-Up and Drop-Off Guidelines

Designated Areas: Drop-off and pick-up are allowed along the curb bordering the school. Please remain in your vehicle at all times while in this zone to ensure a smooth flow of traffic.
Prohibited Areas: Cars are not permitted along the curb opposite the school grounds. Double parking or stopping in the middle of the street is also prohibited for safety reasons.
Legal Requirements: All occupants in vehicles must wear seat belts, and car seats are required as mandated by State law.
Courtesy and Patience: We ask that drivers practice common courtesy and patience to help ensure everyone’s safety during busy arrival and dismissal times.

Crossing Guards

Crossing Guard Assistance: A list of crossing guard assignments is available. Please encourage your children to use crosswalks and the designated crossing guard areas to safely navigate their route to and from school.

Pick-Up and Drop-Off Procedures

Luther Burbank School

Drop-Off Driveway

Location: The drop-off driveway entrance is on Linder Ave, with two lanes.
- Right Lane: For stopping to drop off your child using the passenger side.
- Left Lane: For moving traffic only; please do not stop in this lane.

Students can enter the building starting at 7:45 am and should be seated and ready to learn by 8:05 am.

Pick-Up and Drop-Off Guidelines

Drop-Off: Use the designated Drop-off Driveway. The south parking lot is not for pick-up or drop-off.
Morning Entry: All students enter through the front door (#1W).

Dismissal

Kindergarten & Bus Riders: Exit through door #1S.
First Grade: Exit through door #2W.
Second Grade: Exit through door #3W.
Third Grade: Exit through door #4W.
Fourth Grade: Exit through the front door (#1W).
Fifth Grade: Exit through door #5W.
Bus Riders: All students riding the bus will be dropped off and picked up on the south side of the school.

Richard E. Byrd School

Roundabout Guidelines

No Parking: Parking within the roundabout is not allowed.
Arrival: Approach the roundabout by traveling south on Lamon Avenue. No left turns are allowed from 83rd and Lamon.
Drop-Off: Parents should quickly drop off students, assist them if needed, and then promptly leave.

Parking Options

Parking is available:
- South of 83rd and LaPorte
- South of 83rd and Lavergne
- On Lamon Avenue
Note: Please do not park in staff parking lots.

Safety

Vehicle Exit: Students should exit vehicles on the right side to easily access the sidewalk.
Pedestrian Safety: Students walking should use the designated crosswalk with a crossing guard.

Harry E. Fry School

Arrival Procedures

Traffic Flow: Enter on Mobile Ave, follow the U-shaped route, and exit onto 79th Street. Park curbside, drop off your child, and promptly leave.
Entry Points:
- 78th Street Door: Opens at 7:45 AM for all students.
- Mobile Ave. and Merrimac Ave. Doors: Open at 7:55 AM.
- Office Door: Available for parent drop-offs.
Supervision: Staff are on duty at all entry points.

Dismissal Procedures

Bus Pickup: PASS and special education buses pick up students on Mobile Ave by the office/handicapped area.
Student Exit Points:
- Mobile Ave. and Merrimac South Doors
- 78th Street Doors
Parking Guidelines:
- Park curbside, avoiding resident homes across the street.
- No double-parking on Mobile or Merrimac; police enforcement prevents children from entering double-parked cars.
Quick Pick-Up: Parents should pick up their children and promptly leave.

Jacqueline B. Kennedy School

Blacktop Area: Do not stand on the blacktop during dismissal. Please wait on the sidewalk by the tall tree near 77th Street to avoid crowding and ensure smooth student dismissal.
Dogs: Keep dogs on the sidewalk or grass by 77th Street. Dogs are not allowed on the blacktop due to potential allergies or fears among staff and students.
Parking Restrictions:
- Alleys: No parking in alleys. Residents are encouraged to report violations to the Burbank Police Department.
- Circle Drive: No parking in the Circle Drive. Use it only for quick drop-off or pick-up, then exit immediately.
- 77th Street: No parking on the south side of 77th Street during dismissal. Remember, 77th Street is one-way going west during this time.
- Crosswalks: Do not stop in the middle of the crosswalk.
- No Double-Parking: Double-parking is prohibited on Parkside and 77th Street.
Safety Compliance: Always follow the directions given by Crossing Guards and Police.

Liberty Junior High School

Traffic Flow: Traffic around the school moves clockwise. Always use the right-side passenger door that opens to the curb for student drop-off.
Drop-Off Etiquette: Ensure your child exits the car only when your vehicle has stopped in the drop-off lane, not earlier. Be considerate of other parents dropping off behind you.
Parking Rules: Park legally, avoiding driveways and double parking. The west side staff parking lot is for staff only; do not use it for drop-off.
Residential Areas: Avoid congesting legal residential parking near the school, as this disrupts traffic flow and school bus arrival.
Traffic Compliance: Do not block traffic on Mansfield Ave and Mason Ave. Do not drive into oncoming traffic on Mansfield Ave to turn left onto 81st St.
Drop-Off Location: All drop-offs should be done through the designated drop-off lane. Do not drop off at the 81st and Mansfield Ave entrance or block the driveway at the old Mansfield St entrance.
Law Enforcement: The Burbank Police will enforce all traffic safety laws.
School Timing: School doors open at 8:20 am, with no supervision available before then. Students should be in their seats and ready to learn by 8:30 am.

Rosa G. Maddock School

Parking Restriction: Parking is prohibited on 85th Street between Nashville and Natoma during school days from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Drop-Off Allowance: While parking is not allowed, cars may pull to the curb for student drop-off. Drivers should remain in their vehicles during this process.
Dismissal Protocol: During dismissal, drivers on 85th Street must stay in their cars. Students should walk to the cars for pick-up.

McCord Early Learning Center

Parking: The right lane on Nashville Ave is designated for parking to pick up children. The left lane is for continuous moving traffic.
No Double Parking: Double parking on Nashville Ave is prohibited at all times.
Clear Intersections and Walkways: Do not block intersections or walkways.
Crossing Guard Safety: If the crossing guard is in the street, do not turn in any direction until the crossing guard and students have safely cleared the intersection.

Edward J. Tobin School

Arrival Procedures

Doors Open: 7:45 a.m.
Stop, Drop, and Go: On 85th St. and in the yellow lane in the main parking lot, vehicles should not park or exit. This area is for continuous movement.
Safety: Children should enter and exit vehicles on the passenger side to avoid passing traffic hazards.
Parking: If you need to exit your vehicle to meet your child or walk them to the door, please park in a designated spot in the front or back lot.

Dismissal Procedures

Kindergarten:
- Exit: Students exit through Door 4.
- Check-In: Parent/guardian must check in with the teacher before dismissal.
1st & 2nd Grade:
- Exit: Students exit through the front door.
- Check-In: Park and check in with the teacher before dismissal.
- Safety: Cross at the designated crosswalk. Students should never cross the parking lot alone. Do not call your child to the car; meet them at the front door and walk together.
3rd Grade:
- Exit: Students exit through Door 10.
- Check-In: Park and check in with the teacher before dismissal.
- Safety: Use the designated crosswalk. Do not allow students to cross the parking lot alone. Meet your child at the front door.
4th & 5th Grade:
- Exit: Students exit through Door 4.
- Stop, Drop, and Go: Do not park or exit your vehicle on 85th St. or in the yellow lane of the main parking lot.

Traffic Flow Reminder: If the line on Narragansett is backed up, do not wait at the stop sign and cause a traffic jam. Instead, loop around using 85th St., Merrimac, 84th Pl., and back onto Narragansett.
