Student Pickup/Dropoff

Student safety while arriving and dismissing from school is our top priority. When dropping off or picking up students please follow your students school arrival and dismissal traffic and safety procedures. These procedures should be taken seriously, as your child's safety is our absolute first priority.

Drop-off driveway

  • The drop-off driveway entrance is on Linder Ave. There are two lanes.
  • The right lane is for you to stop your car and drop-off your child, using only the passenger side of your car.
  • The left lane is only for moving traffic; please do not stop in the left lane to pick-up or drop-off your child.
  • It is very important that the left lane keeps moving. Students may begin entering the building at 7:45 am.
  • Children should be in their seats and ready to learn by 8:05 am.

Parents:

It is imperative that you use the Drop-off Driveway when you are driving your student to school. The south parking lot is not to be used for pick-up and drop-off purposes! Please refrain from using the south parking lot for pick-up and drop-off purposes.

All grades will enter the front door (# 1W) upon arrival to school in the morning.

During dismissal the students will exit different doors.

  • Kindergarten and students riding the bus will exit through door #1S.
  • First grade will exit through door #2W.
  • Second grade will exit through door #3W
  • 3rd grade will exit through door #4W.
  • Fourth grade students will exit through the front door (#1W).
  • Students in 5th grade will exit through door #5W
  • Students who ride the bus - All students riding the bus will be dropped off and picked up on the south side of Burbank School (See Map).

These procedures will help to keep your children safe while entering and exiting the school.

Arrival Procedures:

The original police plan was that cars would enter on Mobile Ave and make a U, exiting out onto 79Th Street.  Cars are to park curbside, let the child out the door, and go.

  • Three doors are open for students to enter.
  • The 78th Street door opens at 7:45 AM.
  • All can enter if they desire.

  • Mobile Ave. and Merrimac Ave. open at 7:55 AM.
  • Staff is on duty at all doors.
  • The office door is also available if a parent drops off.

Dismissal Procedures:

  • A PASS and special education bus pick children up on Mobile Ave by the office/handicapped area.
  • Students exit from Mobile and Merrimac South doors.
  • Students exit from 78th Street doors.
  • Faculty is on duty at all doors.

  • Cars are to park curbside, not in front of residents' homes across the street.
  • Parents are to pick up and go.
  • Cars can not double-park on Mobile and Merrimac.
  • The police plan given noted that children could not get into a double-parked car.

  • If you are picking up your child from school/if your child is a walker, please do NOT stand on the blacktop.
  • Please remain on the sidewalk by the tall tree near 77th street.  There are too many staff members and students dismissing at one time.  It creates a traffic jam and makes it hard to keep track of our students and who they are leaving with.
  • Please keep your dogs on the sidewalk or grass by 77th Street.  Dogs may NOT be on the blacktop by the school.  We have staff and students who may be allergic OR afraid of dogs.
  • There is NO parking in the alleys.  When residents complain to the school that someone is parking in their alley and waiting to pick up their children, we encourage them to call the Burbank Police Department IMMEDIATELY.
  • There is NO parking in the Circle Drive.  Parents must pull into the Circle Drive, drop off/retrieve their child/children, and immediate exit the Circle Drive.
  • There is NO parking on the South side of 77th Street during dismissal.
  • You may NOT stop in the middle of the crosswalk.
  • 77th Street is a ONE-WAY going WEST during dismissal.
  • There is NO double-parking on Parkside OR 77th Street.
  • ALWAYS follow the directions given by the Crossing Guards and Police.

Student Arrival and Dismissal Procedures:

  • Traffic flow around the school is clockwise; please make sure to use the right-side passenger door that always opens to the curb for safety reasons.
  • Students should get out of the car once it has stopped and not when cars ahead of you have pulled up to the end of the drop off lane. Please be considerate of other parents in cars dropping kids off behind you!
  • Make sure to park legally, be aware of blocking driveways and double parking. The staff parking lot on the west side of the building is for staff parking only. Parents should not be dropping students off in the parking lot.
  • Do not congest the legal residential parking surrounding the school. Doing so impedes traffic flow and school bus arrival.
  • Do not block the flow of traffic on Mansfield Ave and Mason Ave.
  • Do not drive onto oncoming traffic on Mansfield Ave to turn left onto eastbound 81st St.
  • Do not drop off at the 81st and Mansfield Ave. entrance. All drop off should be through the drop off lane and your student can walk to the preferred door.
  • Do not block the driveway to drop your student off at the old Mansfield St entrance. Doing so creates hazardous conditions on the roadway by causing traffic back up to State Rd.
  • Burbank Police will enforce all traffic safety laws.
  • School doors open at 8:20 am. There is no supervision before 8:20 am.
  • Students begin entering the building at 8:20 am and students should be in their seats ready to learn by 8:30 am.
  • Remember, we are all in this together to provide a SAFE and UNEVENTFUL drop off / pick up experience.

Parking Restriction: Parking is prohibited on 85th Street between Nashville and Natoma during school days from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Drop-Off Allowance: While parking is not allowed, cars are permitted to pull to the curb to allow students to exit from the cars. However, drivers should not exit the vehicles during this process.

Dismissal Protocol: During dismissal, drivers picking up their children on 85th Street are required to remain in their cars. Students should walk to the cars for pick-up.
For the safety of our students and staff, the right lane on Nashville Ave is for parking to pick up children. The left lane on Nashville Ave. is a continuous moving lane.

Cars should not double park on Nashville Ave. at any time.

Please do not block the intersection or walkways.

If the crossing guard is in the street, cars should not turn in any direction until the crossing guard and students are safely out of the intersection.

Arrival Procedures:

  • Doors open at 7:45a.m.Do NOT Park and exit your vehicle on 85th St. or in the yellow lane (around the curb) in the main parking lot. This a only a Stop, Drop, and Go.
  • Parking and exiting your vehicle cause backups. There should be continuous movement.
  • Your child should enter and exit the vehicle on the passenger side of the vehicle.
  • It is a major safety hazard if they exit from the other side because of the passing vehicles.
  • If you would like to exit your vehicle to meet your child or walk them to the door, please park in a designated parking spot either in the front lot or the back lot.

  • *If the line is backed up on Narragansett and you are waiting to turn, you cannot cause a traffic jam by waiting at the stop sign. You will need to turn and loop around. If you need to loop around, I recommend going down 85th, make a left on Merrimac, make a left on 84th Pl., then a left back onto Narragansett.
